О. The Oxford English Dictionary (
OED) = Большой Оксфордский словарь (БОС) впервые вышел в 1933 г., хотя работа над ними началась еще в 1879 г., но еще в 1857 г. Лондонское филологическое общество опубликовало свой основной тезис: «Словарь есть исторический монумент, история нации». В 1989 г. появилось 2-е издание в 20 томах на 21730 страницах и весом 62,6 кг (на 2 CD весит примерно 34 г), имеющее более 615 тыс. слов и около 2,5 млн. цитат. Наиболее часто цитируемый автор – Шекспир. В 1993-1994 гг. вышли еще 3 дополнительных тома. Сейчас на его переиздание (Revision) брошены крупные средства: до 2010 года англичане выделили аж 34,000,000 фунтов народных денег! Понятно, что на «монумент» им не жалко … [2]
